Flighting and Tee Assignment Rules

HMGA competitions, except as noted below, will be flighted by the playing handicap of the player(s) at the time the event signup closes. This is consistent with the new World Golf Handicap System.

  • In 2-man event, partners do not have to play from the same tee unless specifically required by the tournament.
  • format.
  • Players should play from their default tees, unless specifically stated otherwise by tournament format type.  Players default tee should be the tee they play from most often and must comply with below requirements to play more forward tees.
  • GOLD TEE Flight:   New in 2025 we will be offering a gross only competition from the gold tees for our Saturday Tournaments.  Those interested in this flight, will need to communicate their desire to participate in this competition during the tournament sign up period.  A player can choose to play in the Gross Gold Tee flight or a net flight (not both).
  • Copper Tees:  To play from the Copper Tees the player must meet the rule of 80, rule of 85, or be 70 years or older.
    • Rule of 80:  Players 65 or older must have a combined age and blue tee handicap of 80 or greater.
    • Rule of 85:  Players under 65 must have a combined age and blue tee handicap of 85 or greater.
  • Blue/Copper Combo Tees:  To play from the Combo tees, a player must have a blue tee handicap of 12 or greater or must be at least 65 years of age.

    • Any special circumstance, as determined by the Tournament Director or Pro Shop Staff.
  • A minimum of 6 players or teams are required to constitute a flight unless specifically allowed by the tournament format (for example an event that has many flights like member/member events).  We will make every attempt to equalize the number of entrants in each flight and minimize the stroke differential as well.
  • Players with equal playing handicaps may be put in different flights in order to balance flights.  Playing Index will be the second criteria to determine flight placement.
  • All Skins, CTPs, and Flight Payouts were be paid out by flight and be proportional to the number of entrants in that flight.  New in 2025, all ties will be split, there will no longer be scorecard playoff.  This will allow easier distribution calculations within golf genius.  For major events that include shootout qualifications for example, a tie breaking procedure will be communicated specific to that event by the Tournament Director.
